VERTICAL DRAMA:
AUTHOR GOES VERTICAL
AND NOBODY IS READY
“She said she was just going to write books,” sources report
|
In a move that has left the publishing industry speechless — and her nightshift staff scrambling — bestselling author Cassie Alexander has launched a new vertical drama series. For the uninitiated: vertical dramas are short, punchy video stories filmed in portrait mode. Think soap operas for the scroll age. Think drama you can watch while pretending to check your email at work. |
The Nightshifted Chronicle’s entertainment desk has obtained exclusive footage. We can neither confirm nor deny that it involves characters you already love doing things you didn’t expect. One anonymous source close to the production whispered, “She’s not slowing down. If anything, it’s getting worse.” |

A Note From The Editor
Hello reader friends!
I told you this was going to happen!
I’ve always known I was going to turn all of my books (yes, all!) into TV shows and more, and we’re just on the cusp of getting a vertical drama of Bend Her out the door!
I didn’t mean to abandon y’all for three months, but it’s been a wild ride technologically speaking, and the infrastructure required to support all of the everything has been massive. I’m delegating as hard as I can, to humans and AIs alike, but I’m also the only person who has had the crazy vision to see this thing through from day one — so I can’t quite walk away just yet.
But — I’m getting there.
Flows are being put into place, scripts are being approved, characters are becoming set, and also — perhaps most importantly! — I’m having real, serious, fun.
Like organizing all of this and seeing it come to life is just a sheer delight. I feel like I’m living in a dream.
I know I skipped writing Shadowshifted in a timely fashion, and I’m about 60% sure that’s going to happen with Hate Her as well (which kills me, because I also want to finish that book!)
But this is such a crazy opportunity to take, before most of the major publishers get on board (although several of them are already planning to!) — and once I’ve got all the gears greased and the organization settled, Cassie Alexander Studios really should be a well oiled machine.
You know how I know?
Today, I went into the back of my garden. For the first time in a year.
It’s a mess. Like just — a mess.
It sustained me during covid times, when I would spend all my overtime money on plants, because I could keep them alive — I remember being on ambien, scrolling through plant purchase sites, just buying as many plants as I could afford....
(Look, I even had red hair then!)
But when I decided to realio, trulio give this publishing thing a shot — by going all the way in, in a way that wouldn’t accept defeat and couldn’t be denied... I let all my friends come by and take as many plants as they could. And then I abandoned most of the rest of them.
Like, for reals — a’effing’bandon’ed ’em.
Here’s the pictures to prove it.

(Cassie, you might ask, why did you use dining room table chairs for shelving outdoors? lolsob — it was a different time! Also I’d amuse myself on off days driving around the streets of Oakland looking for furniture to scavenge to use for my shelves.)
So I’ve been too embarrassed of myself and what I did to go out there for, oh, forever now. Like, it’s been a long-long time.
But — now?
I think the air is clearing.
I think my life is clearing.
And I think I’m gonna be getting a little more mental space here, coming up pretty soon.
Thank you for toughing things out with me, these will become more regular again now — especially now that Jack’s on the case! lol! — and make sure you vote, ’cause this Tamagotchi’s happening!
xoxo!
Cassie
