My brother happened to call before I left, so I talked to him some, and then I chatted with a friend online — it really helped to lower the anxiety level, phew ;).
The Folio Lit agency meeting/drinks thing was so cool. I got to spend more time with my awesome agent, Michelle Brower, and meet a lot of the rest of the Folio staff — and a ton of their authors, which was cool. I feel like I know-know some romance authors now, finally :D.
Perhaps the awesomest part of dinner was when Michelle said if I hit a NYT list for Nightshifted, or any of the books in that series, one of us would fly in and we’d go get my heart-syringe logo tattooed on ourselves together :D. We even pinkie-swore. That is agent commitment right there, my friends.
After that, a bunch of us went over to the St. Martin’s party together. We were up at the top of the Flatiron building. I’m too tired now to post pix, but I’ll put some up tomorrow with more context. The party was super crowded, full of industry professionals and authors, and gave me a chance to say hi to Rose again :D.
I kinda feel, for the tiniest bit, that I sort of have the seed of a family out here with these people now. A toehold. I gave away some business cards today, I was actually able to give good “how do you find an agent” advice, and I have the names and emails of some people who might actually remember who I am next year, and I just might bug them in between now and then ;).
I have a little bit of the day here tomorrow, and then lunch with a friend, and then off to the airport. I’m so looking forward to going home, I miss my husband and my cat — but I’m really excited about everything that I got to do and the people I got to meet out here :D.
