Just got back from my cover-up tattoo appointment today!

Since this was the 2nd appointment in as many days, I was a bit over the pain — but knowing that this one would be shorter helped get me through it.

Here’s the original tattoo:

Yes, that’s a small picture. I didn’t like it, and it sucked. I got it done at my then house by an “artist” friend of my ex’s. (For those who missed yesterday’s post, we had matching ones, his was the size of a dinner plate. All in all, not a great idea.)

The black’s faded and mellowed a bit with time, but there’s too much of it to cover easily. So my tattoo artist sent me home with a book of ornament to kind of see what I was into. I knew it’d have to be bold and black to cover things up best — and also because we didn’t want more color to detract from the color of the wings (more pix on those to come a month from now.) She suggested some kind of floral detail, and I found some I liked in carvings in the book, and then while she was drawing on me, I told her she could do anything any size she wanted to make it look good — which made her erase the smaller piece she’d been doing, and go for a much larger area overall.

So much better! And once it heals up, the redness will go away, and it’ll look like carved stone. The original design is covered completely and it doesn’t detract from my wings (which you can see at the bottom of the photo.)

I am much relieved to be rid of even more of my past, and to get to have this design into the future :D.
